After the release of ‘Strangers Here’ and the live ‘Playing Out Before Bedtime’ Ep, and alongside endless live performances, Yorkshire based blues mystic and backwoods hip hop sage, Scott Wainwright returned to work on a collection of songs which were recorded summer 2014.
Recording sessions took place in the attic studio of sometime gigging partner Steve Chapman Smith. The idea was a simple one, to write and record as simply as possible a collection of songs, in various styles, solo and with the minimum use of overdubs.
The result is ‘The Future of Primitivism’, eleven raw acoustic songs which dwell within the Blues, Folk and Gospel Genre’s and express a wide ranging set of thoughts and emotions from the artist’s worldview.
Some of the songs were written just before the session and were only ever intended to be played in the studio, whilst others had been in Scott’s live set for some time. A few of the songs were sketched out solo with the plan in mind to revisit them in the future within other projects.
Listeners will hear Scott playing Guitar, Banjo, Harmonica and percussion, alongside his usual vocal performances. This album is as close you can get to a live ‘Scott Wainwright’ performance without leaving your armchair. Enjoy.
