Moments of Clarity – Collected Guitar Works Volume One (2005 -2007)

Collected together for the first time here, are the earliest recordings of the solo acoustic guitar instrumentals of Scott Wainwright, which were originally released over a selection of limited edition CD only EP’s in the mid 2000’s.

With the release of the experimental instrumental album ‘Talking Backwoods’ in 2018 and the solo guitar works ‘Sentimental Debris’ last year, we at SAW felt that it was time to collect together Scott’s earliest solo guitar pieces and present them as a complete album.

The listener will notice less of a ‘blues’ influence on these pieces as at the time Scott was exploring more classical styles and avenues, though the usual ‘world’ and ‘folk’ influences can be found in many of the pieces.

Pieces like ‘Montreal Waiting’ and ‘Roll River, Roll’ along with many others on this collection, were written and performed on nylon strung guitar and have a classical feel as well as being influenced by Spanish and Brazilian guitar musics.

On other pieces like ‘So Long Swan Song’ and ‘First We Dance’, Scott used various folk and ancient musics as a starting point and was also influenced along the way by Japanese Koto and Indian Sitar instrumental pieces.

As we have come to expect from Scott’s instrumental works, the listener will be struck by interesting compositional ideas and precise but heartfelt performances on both steel string and nylon string guitars.
