Playing Out Before Bedtime
(Scott Wainwright Live at The Rook and Gaskill)

On damp and cold November evening, just beyond the walls of the city of York, a group of real ale patrons huddle together in a small public house and are witness to an artist documenting a point in time, a point in his time.
Before a small but perfectly formed crowd, blues maverick, rural mystic and backwoods raconteur Scott Wainwright unfurled a set of worldly worn songs which warmed the hearts and anchored the souls of those in attendance.
After a year on the road, tallying up over a 100 live shows, Scott was invited to play at The Rook and Gaskill by York based artist and friend Craig ‘Vinnie’ Whitehead.
Running numerous events in York, Craig hosts a monthly event at the Rook and Gaskill where the artist’s sets are recorded. Craig then mixes and masters the recordings for the artist to release at a later date.
‘Playing Out Before Bedtime’ is the result of both Scott’s appearance on the night and of the previous shows of the year. Here we have our artist in complete control of his art, with seven songs (on the cd version) that well represent Scotts live performances.
There are the usual Blues workouts (Redemption Blues, Whistle Blowin Blues), Backwoods skiffle jams (Every Ones Telling Me I’ve Got It Wrong) and rural hip hop freak outs (Down the Line, Deal Me another Hand), not to mention a brand new song (The Same Road).
The photo on the album cover was taken by Scott, though rather surprisingly; it was not taken in York on said November evening, but in Florida on holiday. It has to be said though; these songs will warm many a cold damp winter evening for many years to come.
